How to Get to Heaven
Not right now, of course, but when you die is what werre talking about here. Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but we like our present life a lot, and don't like to rush into the unknown. Still, we never know when we might be in an accident or be suddenly struck by a heart attack, so it is wise to prepare ahead.
The bad news is that we are ALL sinners, and sin separates us from God. �For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) The good news is that God Himself has provided a way out for us.
God had His only begotten Son, Jesus, come to earth. Jesus was born of a human mother, Mary, who was a virgin, with God as His Father. When He was thirty years old, he began a very exciting ministry, which you can read about in the Bible books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. He led an absolutely perfect, sin-free human life, which ended when he was crucified.
Gruesome as that sounds, it was actually God's plan to save us. Adam was perfect when he was created, but he sinned. All of Adam's descendants inherited his sinfulness. That includes all of us, and because of this, we are all separated from God.
BUT Jesus was a perfect human too. By his death, he paid the price for Adam's sin as well as ours. And the best part is that He was raised up from the dead too!
Still, there is something we each need to do personally to avail ourselves of the sacrifice Jesus made for us. We need to accept it and tell Him so.
If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. (Romans 10:9-13)
All you need to do is tell God. What could be simpler? Here is a simple prayer you can use, or just put it in your own words and that is all there is to it.
Dear God, I know I am a sinner, and I am sorry for all my sins. I thank you for sending your Son Jesus to pay the price for my sins, and I now accept Him as Lord and Savior. In Jesus' name, Amen.
